Your boards, now on the web

Reference 1.5.1 makes mood boards much easier to share. With Reference Pro, you can publish a view-only web preview and send the link to clients, colleagues, collaborators, friends, or anyone else. They can explore the complete board in their browser without buying or installing Reference.

This gives clients a simple way to review a visual direction and helps colleagues join the conversation around a mood board. Reference remains your private workspace, while the work you choose to publish becomes accessible to everyone who needs to see it.

Boards stay private until you choose to publish one. You can update its web preview as the work develops or unpublish it whenever you want. Sharing is powered by Apple technology and iCloud, keeping it on the same trusted foundation Reference uses across your devices.

Work with images and video

This update also brings more editing tools directly to the board. Remove an image background, crop it, or flip it without leaving Reference.

Video is more useful too. Move through individual frames, capture the exact still you need, and place it directly on the board beside your other references. A video becomes material you can explore, not just something you watch.

Building Reference for the long term

Over the past six months, we have added new ways to collect and work with visual material, fixed hundreds of bugs, and made the canvas much smoother, with support for up to 120 frames per second on compatible devices.

Reference is becoming a more mature product. Stronger foundations now give us more room to focus on performance, reliability, and polish. To support that next chapter, we are introducing Reference Pro.

Reference Pro is included for new customers with a one-time $5.99 App Store purchase across iPhone, iPad, and Mac. People who acquired Reference while it was free can keep using their existing Free plan, and reaching a limit never deletes their work.

Existing Free users can unlock Pro, remove those limits, and publish boards to the web with the same one-time $5.99 purchase. There is no subscription.

Everyone who previously downloaded the paid app will automatically receive Reference Pro for life, at no extra cost. Thank you for using Reference Board and supporting us as the app has grown. This lifetime upgrade is our way of showing our appreciation.
